Transforming Emotions
Dr. Julia McArthur
C.Psych. (she/her)
Clinical Psychologist
I am dedicated to helping clients enhance their emotional awareness, transform painful or stuck emotions, and reconnect with their fundamental needs in order to cultivate a greater sense of fulfilment in their lives and relationships. My therapeutic approach is rooted in authenticity, compassion, and collaboration, recognizing the pivotal role of a supportive and attuned environment when navigating change.
I work from a collaborative and informed approach when tailoring treatment, integrating approaches from several evidence-based treatments including: Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. On occasion, I have also been known to infuse humor into my work, believing it can be a powerful tool in healing. I have extensive experience working with clients who struggle with intense worry, low mood, interpersonal difficulties, self-criticism, challenges with adjustment, trauma, and emotion regulation difficulties.
I received my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Guelph, where I have since held several sessional positions, teaching courses to undergraduate students in both Clinical Psychology and Mental Health and Foundational Skills in Psychology.
