Transforming Emotions
Dr. Emily Thomas
PhD. (she/her)
Resident in Psychology
I work with adults who are seeking support related to trauma, anxiety, low mood, self-criticism and interpersonal difficulties. I approach therapy from a place of empathy, warmth and curiosity, and value collaboration as we work together to build trust and safety in the therapeutic space. I attend to the ways in which culture and wider social networks impact individual experience.
I practice Emotion Focused Therapy from a trauma-informed lens. It is important to me that we tailor therapy to best suit your needs, goals and preferences. I integrate other evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness-based approaches based on what we deem is the best fit for you.
I completed my Master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University. I am currently a Resident in Psychology with the College of Psychologists of New Brunswick. I am currently located in Fredericton New Brunswick and I am only accepting clients who are also located in the province.
I have completed in-depth training in various hospital and community settings included Eastern Health in St. John’s, Newfoundland, St. Michael’s Hospital and the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health in Toronto, and the Toronto Metropolitan University Centre for Student Development and Counselling. At Transforming Emotions, I am supervised by Dr. Sarah Thompson, C.Psych.
