Transforming Emotions
Bethany Roorda, MA
(she/her)
Psychology Resident (Qualifying)
Human emotions, thoughts, and experiences can be complicated. I am passionate about working with people as they navigate whatever life has thrown at them, for better or for worse. I have specific experience working with individuals seeking to navigate difficulties related to body image and eating patterns, and have also helped many clients to change their relationship with worry and anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, and difficult life situations and transitions. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental, and compassionate space to help you work through burdensome thoughts and emotions and challenge self-criticism, no matter what difficulties you are experiencing.
I have a strong background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), working with individuals to challenge difficult thoughts and behaviors. As a therapist at Transforming Emotions, I also work with clients to directly explore and cope with difficult emotions using Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). I am currently in my final year as a PhD student in Clinical Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University. During my time in this program I have worked at numerous clinical practices including: UHN’s Bariatric Surgery program, St. Michael’s Family Health Team, Sunnybrook Hospital’s Fredrick W. Thompson Anxiety Clinic, North York General Hospital’s Adult Eating Disorders Day Hospital Program, Dr. Gillian Kirsh & Associates, and the Downtown Psychology Clinic.
