Unfolding Therapist Blocks
An Emotion-Focused Small-Group Virtual Training for EFT Therapists
Many therapists reach a point in their EFT training where they have a good working knowledge of the model, the theory, and the practice yet still find themselves struggling to apply EFT with confidence and fluidity in-session.
At this stage, the obstacle is often not a lack of knowledge, but the therapist’s own emotional process.
While workshops and supervision can help therapists learn EFT concepts and interventions, clinician blocks often require a different kind of process. This training is designed specifically to help therapists identify and shift emotional obstacles that may be limiting their development as EFT practitioners.

With Dr. Robert Elliott and Dr. Sarah Thompson
Common Therapist Blocks Include:
- Fear of not doing EFT “correctly”
- Self-criticism and harsh self-evaluation during and following sessions
- Anxiety about making mistakes that could affect client progress
- Feeling stuck or plateaued in your development as an EFT therapist
- Difficulty learning to trust your moment-to-moment therapeutic experience
- Over-focusing on arriving at resolution rather than trusting the process
- Quickly moving to soothe, explain, or regulate clients’ emotions rather than helping clients stay with and deepen emotional experience
- Losing connection with your empathic attunement or flow when strong client emotions emerge
- Personal emotional reactions that interfere with therapeutic presence
If you resonate with these or other therapist blocks, this training is designed specifically to help EFT therapists identify, explore, and reduce their own blocks using the principles and methods of Emotion-Focused and Emotion-Focused Group Therapy.
Training Curriculum
In this training, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Self-identify an emotional block they feel is impeding their skill development in EFT
- Participate in an EFT group (EFT-G) based training, engaging in facilitated focused exploration of their own learning obstacles through use of EFT tasks, followed by support from peers.
- Deepen awareness of how self-doubt, anxiety, perfectionism, or other therapist blocks show up in clinical work.
- Strengthen their capacity to remain present with intense emotion—both their clients’ and their own.
- Develop individualized next steps for continued growth as an EFT practitioner.
